Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
